Museums and Social Responsibility - What's next? Conference

MUSEUMS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - WHAT'S NEXT?
Slovenia, 23. and 24. September 2021 (online)

As part of the Slovenian presidency of the EU Council, the Slovenian Museum Association is organising an online conference, Museums and Social Responsibility – What's Next?, which will be held on 23 and 24 September 2021.
This is the third in a series of conferences that have been organised by Germany, Portugal and Slovenia within their presidency of the EU council. Their shared theme was Museums and Social Responsibility.

The first conference was organised by the Network of European Museum Associations (NEMO) on 17 and 18 September; the second one was held in Portugal on 23 and 24 March 2021 and organised by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.

The conference organised by the Slovenian Museum Association is based on the belief that almost all our problems originate in social issues. To understand the deterioration of the world around us, it is crucial to have a thorough knowledge of issues of contemporary society. Various conflicts – gender, race, economy, ethnicity, religion and culture – are also the foundations of environmental deterioration. The future of society and museums depends on acknowledging these issues and seeking solutions. Thus, our speakers from various countries including the USA, Canada and Australia will address a number of topics and discuss social ecology, ecologically aware museums, the use of technology in museums, and the changes brought to the world through the use of technology. The internationally acclaimed speakers are experts in the fields of ecology and museums, integration of Agenda 2030 in the operation of museums, ethics and consideration of changes in museums which will assume a major role in contemporary society.

The international museum community will be pondering its relations with the changing society, its role in the contemporary world, the role of museums in solving ecological issues, and the role of technology in museums that are willing and ready to change the world around them. From activism to education.

You will be able to pose questions to the speakers on social networks during their talks.

The conference will be held in English.
